The trend of lip enhancement isn’t just word of mouth; there is data to back it up. According to the American Society of Plastic Surgeons (ASPS), since 2000 the number of lip enhancement procedures has doubled.

Furthermore, it’s not only women who are seeking lip enhancements. Men are getting them too. According to a report by CBS News, 1,200 men received lip plumping procedures in 2015.

Is the latest lip enhancement trend all because of Kylie? Well, probably not entirely, but celebrities have a lot to do with it. People idolize celebrities. They believe they are beautiful and perfect. They want to be like them, especially their most admirable features. When plastic surgery can deliver the full lips of their favorite celebrities, you can bet that people will start knocking on their plastic surgeon’s door.

Social media is the other push. Judging others on social media is unfortunately very commonplace, and with an ideology of getting perfect lips, people tend to prefer those with big puckers. When these same people post selfies, they want to be pleased with themselves, and that means full, defined lips.
